As Milton Keynes celebrates its 50th birthday this week, we’ve been reflecting on what we love about MK.
We’ve been based in Milton Keynes since the birth of Provide in 2002 and there are many reasons why we still call this city home:
- MK attracts world-changing companies
We’re not alone in choosing MK as the home for our head office. MK has attracted some of today’s most exciting, world-changing companies. Take Transport Systems Catapult as an example: This company, based in MK, is the UK’s innovation hub responsible for harnessing emerging technologies to transform the future of transport as we know it – such as driverless cars.
- Milton Keynes is one of the most innovative areas in the UK
Ranked number 3 for innovation, beating London and Manchester, MK produces more ‘cutting edge services and products’, than almost all other towns and cities in the country. The city continues to encourage and support innovation where possible.
- Milton Keynes is officially the 2nd best place to work in the country
A survey carried out in 2016 showed that MK is top for work satisfaction, beaten only by Cambridge. With over three quarters of the working population in employment, combined with the high salaries and favourable work satisfaction ratings, there are many reasons why people aren’t feeling the need to commute to London.
- Milton Keynes is the new ‘Tech City’
MK has been called the new Tech City, and is a technology hotspot for many leading the way in science, engineering and smart technology. MK is a dream for geekery with a strong tech community and events throughout the year. As technical recruiters, we couldn’t be in better company!
- MK provides incredible business support
Beaten only by London, Milton Keynes has more business start-ups than any other place in the UK, which is testament to how much support the city gives to local businesses – ours included. MK is also ranked at No.2 for its percentage of high-tech and digital SMEs.
These annual reports and surveys demonstrate that Milton Keynes is a leader to be reckoned in the UK for business innovation and growth, and our own experience of a recruitment agency in MK certainly reflects that.
For the past 15 years, we’ve lived, worked and employed in MK. We’ve become involved with local events and have fully immersed ourselves into the welcoming, exciting culture of this extraordinary city.
Happy 50th Birthday, Milton Keynes! We can’t wait to see what happens over the next fifty years.
