A Day in The Life of our Consultancy Division: The Future Cities Project
Phase 5 – Making the Offer to the CTO
This fifth in a series of blog case studies follows our Lead IoT Consultant, Stuart White as he works with a Community Interest Company to help them recruit the people who will reimagine how cities will work in the future.
Following a successful interview and presentation day with the three CTO candidates, we arranged a final round of interviews between the CTOs, founders and HR Director, which resulted in our client being ready to move to offer.
Offer stage is critical at this level of employment. The seniority of the role required more than just a good package. We needed to help the founders convince the candidate to leave a great salary in the city for one that didn’t match it.
As we suspected, the financial package alone didn’t cut it so we stepped in to advise our client on how to pitch the lifestyle that went with a job like this one. We recommended they offered share options too.
Quality of Life Versus Money
The promise of a better quality of life made a big difference to the candidate. Helping the candidates realise their own career dreams whilst paying attention to the benefits it would give to their family and children was a great bonus. Motivations for relocating often go beyond financial incentives.
We briefed our client on how to structure the offer and became a mediator between the two parties while they negotiated. The founders were incredibly flexible, which gave the candidate the right impression of this incredible organisation. It was time for me to then step out of the way to let the candidate and founders discuss the finer details and come to an agreement.
Seeing how far this client has come in terms of selling their business and creating a fantastic candidate experience, right up to offer, is one of the reasons I love my job. When the framework is followed, it really does pay dividends.
