The rise of personal robots

Another great video from TED Talks. This one by Cynthia Breazeal, wondered why we were using robots on Mars, but not in our living rooms. The key, she realized: training robots to interact with people. Now she dreams up and builds robots that teach, learn — and play. Watch for amazing demo footage of a new kids’ game.

Crowd Accelerated Innovation (the future of online video)

Chris Anderson, the curator of TED describes his view on the future of online video. His concept of Crowd Accelerated Innovation is quite inspirational and well worth the 19 mins of time.

What it feels like to freefall from space

One for all you space nerds. This video is taken from an on-board camera mounted on one of the solid rocket boosters from the STS-124 Shuttle launch.

Nothing much happens until the two minute mark when the boosters are released and the dizzy freefall begins. Knocks the socks off your average skydive.

Keep an ear out for all the strange sounds as the booster spins through the atmosphere until the parachutes are deployed and it floats gently down. Great stuff.

Microsoft to beat Google Street View?

Google’s Street View has fast been becoming a vital tool when locating a new destination for a meeting or an interview. We advise all our candidates to check out a building on Street View before an interview so they can be sure they are walking into the right place.

Now Microsoft are entering the game with Street Slide and it looks even more useful. The system adds a new aspect to looking around and I guess if they can get the imagery then it will be a serious contender.

Check out the video to see how it works.
